Geology and Ecology of Regional Environments (Bio/Gol 485) is a hypothesis driven field and laboratory course for undergraduate students in the Environmental Science Program. This course will afford students the opportunity to participate in all aspects of the scientific process. Students work closely with a faculty member from each participating department to develop testable hypotheses, visit field sites to collect data that address their hypotheses, analyze the data, and present conclusions in written and oral formats. The course is highly interactive and encourages critical thinking and problem solving skills at all steps of the process. Additionally, students gain proficiency in using traditional field sampling techniques in ecology and geology as well as newer, cutting-edge technologies. This course provides students with experience in real-life problem solving situations similar to those faced by professional researchers and environmental managers and policy makers.
